Michael Whyte joined SWIFT in 2001. He is currently working on evaluating new market opportunities and co-ordinates the Banking Industry Division input into overall corporate strategy. He is project manager for SWIFT’s evaluation of industry requirements in the migrant remittances arena.

Previously, Mr Whyte spent seven years with Ernst & Young Consulting, Belgium. Specialised in business development and marketing, he led the successful launch of European operations for a number of US based trade associations in the textiles, telecommunications and micro-electronics sectors.

Mr Whyte is Irish and holds a B.A. in European Studies from University College, Cork, Ireland, and a Masters of Science in Management from Boston University.

SWIFT is the industry-owned co-operative supplying secure, standardised messaging services and interface software to nearly 8,000 financial institutions in 206 countries and territories. SWIFT members include banks, broker-dealers and investment managers. The broader SWIFT community also encompasses corporates as well as market infrastructures in payments, securities, treasury and trade. Over the past ten years, SWIFT message prices have been reduced over 80%, and system availability approaches 5x9 reliability — 99.999% of uptime.
