International development minister Gareth Thomas, MP to be keynote speaker at Global Consumer Money Transfer Conference

Mr. Gareth Thomas, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for International Development will be the keynote speaker at the Global Consumer Money Transfer Conference.

In his remarks, Mr. Thomas will refer to the first UK survey of money transfer products published by his ministry.

The survey entitled, "Sending Money Home" was commissioned to encourage competition among money transfer operators and to ensure openness and lower costs. In short a bid to encourage banks, building societies and money transfer operators to view the diaspora in the UK as an attractive market for not only remittance services but a whole range of financial products.

Manish Mishra will be a key speaker at the Global Consumer Money Transfer conference on Monday 30th October at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Knightsbridge, London.

Mr. Mishra who is flying into London specially for the event is buoyant about the remittance market in India.

About $5billion of remittances flowed into India in the last year through ICICI Bank. This is big leap from 2003 when just $1billion was sent in from overseas.

According to Mr. Mishra this has been sparked by the bank creating new products after listening carefully to customers who found that earlier methods ofsending money had been cumbersome and expensive. Typically they would send money through wire transfers or cheques. Cheques took time to clear, sometimes running into weeks, while wire transfers were expensive often costing $30-$40 per transaction.

British deputy finance minister, Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Ed Balls, MP received IAMTN’s ceo Lady Olga Maitland at the Treasury in London’s Whitehall, today.

The purpose of the meeting with Mr. Balls, a member of the Chancellor of Exchequer Gordon Brown’s ministerial team, was to discuss the money transfer sector.

Mr Balls, who worked very closely with Mr. Brown before entering the House of Commons in 2005, has travelled widely in the course of his duties. In the course of them he has met Mr. Alexei Koudrin, the Russian Finance Minister.

Money transfers become popular today. Domestic systems of money transfers eagerly compete with foreign ones and definitely win in some aspects.

There are 13 systems of money transfers known to Muscovites, «Mediologia» analysis organization says. 10 of them are domestic and only 3 of them are based abroad. One of these systems appeared during the last month.

The figures underline the fact money transfers niche is filled very quickly in the Russian market.

The speed of money transfer, bank commissions, withdrawing conveniences, geographical factor are crucial in money transfer system choice.

The Banker magazine published by the Financial Times has agreed to become media partner with the Global Consumer Money Transfers Conference on Monday October 30th at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Knightsbridge, London.

The Banker a leading publication of the Financial Times has taken up the cause of the international remittance and money transfer market.

Their Editor in Chief Stephen Timewell has written a 4-page spread on the money transfer market in the September issue. His interest began after he chaired a panel discussion on remittances at the first global money transfer conference in October 2005 at the Institute of Directors.

Money transfers will solve the problems of Mexicans

«GCMT-2006» which is going to take place on 30th October 2006 promises to globally solve problems of consumer money transfers.

The year 2005 became very significant in terms of money transfers in the USA: Mexicans working in the States on the regular basis sent home more than $20 billion (source: INTER-AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK). This fact underlined the importance of money transfers in the modern world once again. It is not a secret that Russians face the same problem with former Soviet republics when workers from Caucasus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Ukraine and other republics send home sums of money which can be easily compared to the budget of the world known economical centers. International Association of Money Transfer Network organizes the second Global Consumer Money Transfer conference. The conference will take place on 30th October 2006 in London, UK.
